BLUE OCTOPUS
Did you know? Blue octopuses can taste what they touch. Thanks to all the suction cups on their arms. Can you imagine that humans, can taste what they touch except the tongue? I thought it would be enchanting. Also a very bizarre thought. Isn't it ? Imagine, we visit the market and we can taste fruits and vegetables when we touch them with our hands. Ouch... For example, tomato; if it does not taste like the tomato we know, we may not buy it. It would be a useful design tools for humans.
20th Anniversary of Özlem Tuna Brand
This year marks our 20th anniversary…I came up with 3 questions for 20 years: How and why did I start? How did 20 years go by? What are my dreams for the future? How did I start? In the jewelry sector in Istanbul... As a young designer between 1996 and 2003, I changed my workplaces constantly in my search for creativity. In 2003, I suddenly resigned from the company where I worked as a jewelry designer after getting angry with the bosses. I was trying to grasp the ancient knowledge of centuries-old structures and production methods in the jewelry sector around the Grand Bazaar and the Historical Peninsula of Istanbul, while trying to keep up with the rapidly changing world of design. I was constantly asking myself, "what, how, and why am I doing this?" Seeing that I couldn't create meaning in my life by coming to work in the morning increased my discomfort. What did I exactly want to do? I felt a deep desire to be free. The desire to experience and experiment freely in the city where I lived, the business life, the dynamics of trade, human relationships, designing, producing and bringing them to the user. In April 2003, the adventure began in a 6 square meter area on the third floor of a building on Divan Yolu Avenue in the Historical Peninsula of Istanbul. How did 20 years go by? With brave experiments, I moved seven times in central Istanbul. At first, I started designing and producing jewelry under the brand ÖZLEM TUNA. I was the designer and the producer for a while. In my explorations of Istanbul's Grand Bazaar and its surroundings, I realized that I had started designing coffee cups. Do you know why I wanted to grow up the most when I was a child? To be able to drink COFFEE like adults do... My passion for the kitchen was also added to this. Spending time in the kitchen, cooking, and sharing have always been of interest to me since I was a child. The area of understanding and sharing life has always been the kitchen, around the dining table, and at the table with my friends. So, I started designing products around the culture of food and drink. In 2013, I established my own porcelain production workshop. My production adventure began with my search for a language and meaning for my designs. Designing and production; taking on the responsibility of a mini-series production line, a handmade intensive production... Training team members, making coffee cups with jewelry precision in porcelain production... Here is a team that passionately cares about each piece they create.
