How is your relationship with coffee?

I love ritual. When I was at school, we designed packaging based on foods and drinks from Turkish culture as part of a project. At that time, I had the chance to research the history of coffee and where it came from. I read about how it was adapted to Turkish culture from the way the Mevlevis sipped it. Of course, there are rituals developed by the people as well... What interests me is not the taste of coffee on the palate, but the rituals that create addiction in people.

You designed it for coffee…

Since I also like drinking coffee, I had the opportunity to design something about it. I usually make the coffee at home, but carrying it is always a problem for me because I can't walk without looking inside while carrying it, I would constantly spill it. For this reason, I designed a scale tray with chain details in the workshop class. Then I developed the same principle and designed a tray called "Love Scale" for my mother. I also have a bad memory about coffee fortune telling. I tell fortunes for fun. I am an enthusiast. One holiday, I saw a coffin in a fortune telling. It was in a place where it should not normally be. Don't be ridiculous, they said. My aunt looked and thought it looked like a coffin. Two days later, my grandfather passed away. Everyone said, "Seza, look, your fortune came out." It took me a while to tell fortunes after that. What made me start telling fortunes again was my new perspective. This is a fun element, you can't change your fate and it has nothing to do with fortune telling. Once I intended to tell fortunes for fun, there was no problem. While having coffee with a primary school friend, she said, "If you tell fortunes, I will close it." I said I'll look, the girl suddenly got excited and started doing everything according to the ritual, she closed the cup by turning it towards herself in the right way... etc. while she was saying that, she looked at her hand, there was no ring, she looked around, there was no coin, these things happen in seconds, then she took off her long necklace and left the cup at the bottom. I said, rituals are sometimes important to the point of obsession. And I designed my "Whatever Your State" fortune-telling cup.

Do you see any traces of your being a designer in your acting work?

When my accessories break, I make them myself. My bracelet broke, I didn't feel comfortable. I sat down and made my own bracelet in the middle of the night. For example, I sometimes get confused about whether the flexible material is better or the steel wire. Then, when I use it backstage, I get angry and say "oh, flexible material is easier to put on in such a short time". Or, I go and look at the material of the fan to be used in a scene with my hand and "click click click". Professional deformation... For example, glasses are used on stage. Two of them are glass, the rest are plastic. I catch it with my eyes. When we go on tour, the detail of the table we eat at was a detail I had never seen before, for example, I examine it until I understand it, by that time everyone has eaten. It was also like this in our stage lessons at the conservatory, when I think about all the accessories that that scene will need, the costume that the character will wear, etc. and design and apply it in a mock-up manner, I feel better and more like I belong on stage in that scene. I made a practically working bow and arrow system to portray the character Wednesday. This is normally wrong. The feeling should come from within, regarding the character. But I feed terribly from the outside, and I think it has to do with our visual intelligence. Of course, the theater side is more dominant these days. The most I can do is design posters for events :)
